Gifted
and Talented Day - 26th November 2008
This was the first ever morning that had been dedicated solely to
Feltham Community College’s Physical Education G&T students.
A
total of 63 students from Years 8 to 11 were split into three groups
and undertook a carousel of workshops. These workshops, delivered
by external tutors, were designed to challenge, educate and assess.
The
Core Fitness Workshop looked at the development of abdominal and
dorsal skeletal muscles through unstable training. By the end of
this session all students understood the relevance of this session
in relation to their own sports.
The
Multi-skill workshop was delivered by the Lead Tutor in West London.
This fun practical session looked at developing our students “speed”,
“agility”, “power” and “sending and
receiving” skills through practises that can be applied to
many different sports, not just the students specialist sport.
The
JAE workshop identified and assessed students who were considering
a possible career as a paid sportsperson. As part of this assessment
it also identified which students had a heavy commitment to sport
outside of school, with this assessment forming part of the Schools
JAE strategy, which is aimed at supporting potential elite or international
athletes whilst in education.
To
consolidate and develop the knowledge gained by the students at
the inaugural PE G&T morning, further opportunities are being
planned.
