National
Schools Sports Week 29th June – 3rd
July.
In order to celebrate
National Schools Sports Week the college
laid on a wide range of activities, which
not only impacted on students PE lessons
but also used sport to develop understanding
in other lessons. Students were also set
the challenge of setting themselves sporting
pledges.
In PE students
were given the opportunity to choose their
activity. The theme was ‘try something
new’. Students were given the opportunity
to use our new climbing wall and to play
games such as Rocket Ball, Floor Ball, Handball,
Ultimate Frisbee and Shokk Combat. These
activities really engaged the students and
we are looking at including some of them
in our curriculum for next year.
During lunch
times and after school students were given
an enhanced programme of activities. Table
Tennis and a Rowing challenge were set up
on the playground, to ‘bring sport
to the public’. The two most impressive
performances on the rowing challenge were
from Josh Shakleton and Danielle Pond.
All years 7 experienced
lessons with a sporting theme across the
whole of there curriculum. Example of this
included Science where students learnt about
forces through Rugby and in Maths where
they improved their data collection by recording
each other in track and field events. This
method of learning has been proved to be
really popular and the departments are looking
to add more active learning experiences
into their schemes of work.
